Your wedding is a very special day.  In fact, it will probably be one of the most important days of your life.  You want it to be beautiful in every way possible, and there is nothing wrong with that.

There are many aspects of your wedding.  Some of the most important are the ceremony location, reception venue, gown, bridesmaid gowns, photography, timing, food, service, registry, and wedding table decorations.  Of course, there are many more as well.

The wedding table decorations can make your wedding reception incredible and really push it over the edge, or they can turn it into a decoration disaster.  With the right instructions and a lot of great ideas, you can design the most beautiful custom wedding table decorations for your wedding.

Table Clothes

Most likely, you will have table clothes on your tables.  The type and size you will need will depend on the kind of tables you have.  Usually the tables are round of varying sizes, but sometimes they will be square or rectangular.  Make sure you know the size of your tables at the wedding venue you choose.

There are so many different options available when it comes to tablecloths.  You can use solid colors, bright colors, black, white, prints, etc.  You can layer the cloth or use table runners.  Think carefully about what your wedding colors are and don’t make a final decision until you know what your centerpieces will be.

This is important because if you have a lot of stuff on your tables and you use floral print tablecloths, it might be way too busy.  In fact, most tablecloths look best in a neutral or toned down color of your wedding colors.

Centerpieces

The centerpieces of your table are some of the most important parts of your wedding table decorations.  It is what you see first when you look at the table and it is one of the most prominent features of the wedding reception decor.

Some common centerpiece ideas are candles (pillars, votive, floating, etc.), flowers (vases, petals, floating, etc.), small trees, sculptures, favors, etc.  There are no right or wrong centerpieces for your table.  It’s all a matter of experimenting to find out what you like.

Here are a few steps and ideas to help you pick the perfect centerpieces for your tables:

  • Decide on your colors – These colors are for your whole wedding, but you still need to know them before you start setting up your wedding table decorations.
  • Choose a general theme – I’m not saying you need to have a Star Wars wedding or a Halloween wedding, I just mean in general.  Do you love the outdoors?  Maybe you will bring the outdoors in and have lots of leaves, flowers, trees, stones, and other natural things.  Other ideas could be retro, beach, winter wonderland, traditional, etc.
  • Shop around for wedding table decorations – You may choose to have your centerpieces professionally done, or you can create them yourself and save some money in the process.  Shop around at craft stores and keep your eye out in any store for something that catches your attention. Look online at pictures to spark your creativity.  Think simple or think lavishly.  Be unique or follow the latest trends.
  • Give yourself time – One of the best things you can do when it comes to discussing and choosing your wedding table decorations is to start early and take your time.  These are ideas that may evolve over time.  Creativity shouldn’t be rushed.

Favors

Favors are just another nice way to thank your guests.  They are often chocolates or trinkets, but can be just about anything you want.  Just make sure they match all your wedding table decorations.

Place Settings

Plates, forks, napkins, etc. aren’t exactly wedding table decorations, but it’s nice if they look good, too.  With  most venues, all of this is supplied.  Speak with them to see if you have any good choices.

If you are having a low-budget wedding, you will need to supply these yourself.  You have a few options.  You can go paper or plastic, plastic that looks real, or you can rent dishes.  Dishes that are plastic buy look real are inexpensive and can look nice, but they are often just as expensive as renting which will look best and work well.  If you really need to savea money, there are a ton of beautiful designs of paper and plastic dinnerware available.

Hopefully all of these ideas will help you design your own beautiful wedding table decorations.

Dress Up the Ceremony

If you are having your wedding in a church and you have no decorations, it will just look like any day at church.  Adding just a few things to spruce it up, will make it personal and special.  Here are several great ways to do just that:

  • Add bows or other decorations to the ends of the pews.  Put them on every other pew to tone it down.
  • Put your choice flowers on the alter to make it more personal and to your own style.
  • Add a runner to the aisle, but make sure you really want it.  Sometimes these can be hard to unroll during the wedding.
  • Put flowers, candles, or both on the windowsills.
  • Add a string quartet.  This isn’t exactly a decoration, but it does add more ambiance and personality to your wedding ceremony.

Are you thinking about having an outdoor wedding ceremony or a ceremony in a place other than a church?  Here are more wedding decoration ideas for the unique set up.

  • If your wedding is outdoors, take advantage of the fact.  Pick an area with beautiful foliage and add flowers.
  • Go overboard with a certain decorations.  For example, if you’re ceremony will be in a large open room, fill the outside aisles with tons of flowers.  It’s unique and gorgeous.
  • Play with your wedding party and have them stand in such a way to frame you and your future spouse.

Wedding Decoration Ideas for the Reception

The reception will no doubt be much longer than the ceremony, therefore, you might want even more wedding decoration ideas because you will have more to decorate.  You will need wedding table decorations and centerpieces and decorations throughout the room.

  • Find ideas for centerpieces.  Use your wedding style as inspiration using candles, flowers, plants, and/or abstract art pieces.
  • Adorn any windows with foliage or lights.
  • Decorate the cake table lightly, being sure to accent the beauty of the cake.
  • Keep a minimalist look and throw in a traditional style so that people can enjoy what you have without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Enjoy yourself!

The more fun you are having at the wedding, the better everyone will enjoy themselves as well.  After all, it is your wedding day and it’s all about you!
